A Review of the Indexation of Members' Allowances for Dartford Borough Council pdf icon PDF 65 KB

To agree an initial report of the Panel’s work on the Indexation of Members’ Allowances for submission to the General Assembly of the Council.

Minutes:

The Panel considered an initial report on the review of Members’ Allowances for recommendation to the General Assembly of the Council in July. This detailed the membership of the Panel and its intention to undertake a detailed review of the Scheme of Members Allowances which had initially been established in 2003 and reviewed every four years thereafter. The Panel noted the recent decision of the General Assembly of the Council to modify the allowances paid to Lead Members to reflect their revised role in leading Cabinet Delivery Teams and the alignment of this allowance with the payments made to the Chairmen of the Audit Board and the Scrutiny Committee. The Panel also considered the practice of applying indexation to the scheme of allowances at the same rate as the rate of increase for Council staff pay and decided to recommend the continuation of this practice to the General Assembly of the Council.

            RESOLVED:

That the report be agreed for submission to the General Assembly of the Council on 13 July 2015 with the recommendation that the existing practice of indexation at the same rate as the increase in Council staff pay continues to be applied to the Scheme of Members’ Allowances.
